First Impressions of the Captiva Designs Vertical Smoker
Today I am excited, as I am going to check out my very first Stick Burner. A Stick Burner is an Old School Smoker, one that you have to control by adding Charcoal and Wood, and adjusting the vents to control the temperature. This requires more attention than you typical Pellet Smoker.
Stick Burners take away the convenience you get using a Pellet Smoker. Instead of filling a hopper full of Pellets and setting a temperature on a dial, you tend the fire the old fashioned way. Monitoring temps and adjusting the vents, as well as adding more Wood and Charcoal every 45-60 minutes or so, to make sure you hold your desired temperature.
Why would you want to use a Stick Burner when it requires more work? Because the Smokey flavor you achieve is much better, and in my opinion produces a much superior end result.
Today I check out the Captiva Designs Vertical Smoker. I seasoned it today, and played around with the vents to see how hard it was to maintain temperature. How did it perform? Watch my video below to see.
